Pouring the Foundation
Thursday was a beautiful day to pour concrete at The Center of Hope. The sky was blue and the air was crisp enough so that the crew laboring to level the cement barely broke a sweat. The crew worked plenty hard moving the wet mud into place before the skilled craftsmen finished the concrete with a smooth surface.
The foundation will take three days to complete. The building footprint is very large. Remember, this is a 35,000 sq./ft. building. The team started pouring the Medical wing first and will work their way around next week until the Dental and Behavioral Health wings along with the lobby and café are also completed. We aren't done yet with pouring cement.
Here's a quick video of the crew in action. They all work really well as a team.
We had 15 cement mixer trucks deliver to the site for the first day of the foundation pour. Each truck can hold about 9-10 cubic yards of wet cement per load. A wet cubic foot of cement weights about 150 pounds. Since there are 27 cu./ft. per cubic yard, that equals a bit more than two tons per cubic foot of wet cement.
The average cement mixer truck arriving on site yesterday was carrying almost 40,000 pounds of cement. Each truck provided almost 800 sq./ft. of cement. The Center of Hope is being built upon a very strong foundation.

A big thank you to the crew from Cardinal Concrete from Red Bluff!
