Why is the Building Yellow?

Much of the framing is complete at the Center of Hope.  There are a few areas that still need to be built out but enough is done that the contractor is working to enclose the building.  As noted previously, a fiberglass coated drywall is installed as the first layer of the exterior walls.  This is the yellow exterior surface that you currently see up on the building.

The crew from Harrison Drywall has been diligently working to install the DensGlass boards on all exterior surfaces.   

 

Installing the exterior surface is a time consuming process as many sections need to be cut to precisely fit where needed.  It takes a team to put it all together.

 

As you can see, the framing is made up of metal studs but wood is used to frame around the areas where windows will be installed.  The above photo was taken on the second floor walkway.  The framing and window cut-outs on the left side will be office space that will look into the courtyard area.

The contractor poured the footings for the housing complex this week.  The foundation will be poured soon then we will be able to watch the housing go up.  It will be different from the clinic construction in one very visible way - it will be framed with wood studs, not metal.

The roofing material has been delivered to the site and installation has started on that portion of the project.  Pallets of the roofing material have been staged on the metal roof decking in preparation for installation. 

The roofing material is composed of a dense foam board that is tapered to allow for a gradual slope to the roof surface.  This slope directs water to a series of rooftop drains which sheds rainwater without having to utilize gutters around the perimeter of the roof. 

The foam boards are built up in several layers before tapering down towards the drains. Sheets of half inch thick DensBoard are installed on top of the foam boards to protect the foam.  There will be one final layer installed - a protective waterproof membrane.
