Working Inside and Out

The housing unit for the Transitional Aged Youth is progressing nicely.  The building has taken shape and is sealed up tight from the rain we received this week.  The contractor will start "papering" the building next week - that's attaching the water resistant barrier to the exterior walls before putting the siding on.

The crew is completing outside work while it's dry.  The curbs have been poured, the parking lot has been prepped for the asphalt and the sidewalk base rock has been compacted and is ready for the cement.

The cement block trash enclosure is being constructed.

The crew is sealing the DensGlass exterior of the building in preparation for the siding insulation to be installed.

The public stairwell to the second floor is being welded in place.  These stairs are adjacent to the elevator and will be enclosed and protected from the weather when complete.

Work continues on the inside of the building, even though it's become rather cold for the workers.  Fortunately the General Contractor, Slater & Son Construction, has placed heaters throughout the building to keep the crew warm while they install drywall, HVAC ductwork, electrical wiring and paint.

Much of the painting is completed in the Medical wing.  The green accent walls at the medical assistant stations really stand out with the highlighting from the skylights.

The subcontractor is installing the ceiling tile gridwork.  He uses a 360 degree laser that casts a green line around all the walls to identify the level ceiling position.  With this line identified he can install the grid that holds the ceiling tiles in place.  This is really precise work that requires a great deal of attention to detail in order to keep the ceiling level and the grids formed at the correct measurements.

There are quite a few trades people working on the site - concrete, electrical, painting, drywall, carpenters, welders, HVAC specialists, etc.  I'm amazed the construction superintendent, Jackson, can keep up with it all but he has and he does it well.  Slater & Son Construction has been amazing!
